Freedom Challenge Week 2

Last week I had ice cream 3 times. Other than that I was free of animal products and alcohol. I feel good and am so grateful for my freedom.

  1. Meg,

Dan is the ice cream lover in our house. He is now addicted to the strawberry and banana soft serve I make with walnuts. You should give it a try, it is really good.

Congrats on your progress. ;-) Giving up wine was really tough for me.

  2. Excellent progress--on the challenge AND on the weight loss! Wahoo! I love when it all comes together! :D

Regarding the ice cream. Your guidelines are, obviously, yours and I'm not questioning them. Just curious.

I was wondering about the no animal products decision. Although ice cream is a product from an animal--an animal did not die producing it--so it's kind of different.

Is there some kind of health reason you're avoiding all animal products? Do you avoid eggs, too?

I've read several bloggers who avoid dairy, but they never say why. Just curious.

Mostly, congratulations on your good work!

    For freedom!

  3. Hi Deb-
Thanks for the great question. I avoid all animal products for health reasons and for personal reasons.
Health-wise, all animal products contribute to the development of cancer cells. This has been scientifically proven many times over. One of the largest studies supporting this is, The China Study, by T. Colin Campbell.
Personally, I do want to avoid partaking in the suffering of animals. The milk and egg industries do inflict misery on millions of animals in and of itself, but also is directly related to meat production. A good book about this topic is "Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer.
Besides all of that, the factory farming industry is bad for the environment. Check out this nice video on being Vegan.

  5. Ali-
I will check out your soft serve recipe. I do so love ice cream and I really dislike soy ice"cream".
The wine things has been really easy so far. I think I would miss it on social occasions, but we've not been missing it at home. We feel like we can eat more, now!!
    Talk to ya later!
